Where should I send them for a view?

For twenty years on Front Street I answered that before the key packet was even on the counter. These notes are the same answer, written down: the tower when the air is clear, and four other places when it is not.

Guests said “the tower” and meant the whole skyline. I learned to ask one more question: do you want height, or do you want the city laid out in front of you? Height is the tower. The laid-out city is often a park slope, a pier, or the ferry rail.

Nothing here is a ticket desk. I do not hold inventory, I do not take payment, and I will not pretend a foggy hour is worth the climb. If the lake has swallowed the skyline, I say so.
